Use of drones for spraying in pineapple plantations

NICOVERDE will develop and evaluate the use of drones to apply bio-inputs for pest control. First, they will conduct a trial on a hectare of pineapple using the drone, and then establish an optimal flight protocol. In addition, they will evaluate the economic, environmental and productive costs and benefits of spraying with drones compared to using a tractor with a boom sprayer for the same purpose.

The use of drones for spraying aims to:

• Reduce water consumption.
• More targeted applications.
• Reduce application times and the use of manpower.
