Food production of small banana producers

The association Bananos Ecológicos de la Línea Noroeste (BANELINO) located in the Dominican Republic is a winner of the ideas competition of the Del Campo al Plato Programme. The project consists of the production and commercialization of eggs and chicken meat in organic banana farms.

BANELINO’s farms are completely organic so these lands have a variety of plant species that converge with banana cultivation. Incorporating the amount of 16 hens per hectare will contribute to increase the biodiversity of the farm, since other plant species will be planted for the consumption of the hens and will improve the quality of the soil by the contribution of organic matter.

The initiative will strengthen economic sustainability and enable 320 partners to consume healthy, organic food for themselves.
