An innovative collaboration between the poultry and pineapple sectors

Agro Piñas del Caribe, S.R.L. is the winner of the From Field to Plate Programme Ideas Competition in the Dominican Republic.

The project supports an essay that seeks to transform chicken manure (a massive polluting waste) into compost, to be used as organic fertilizer to nourish pineapple crops. In addition, it will be mixed with wood vinegar to control the Phytophtora fungus, which attacks and causes disease in pineapple cultivation.

Composted chicken manure and wood vinegar are organic resources that will contribute to

• Decrease the use of chemical fertilizers
• Improving water and soil health
• Producing sustainable pineapple
